Call of Duty is learning from their mistakes

Call of Duty is one of, if not the biggest first person shooter on the planet. However all of the success must have gotten to the developers heads because they seem to have lost their touch when it comes to making a good game. The last Call of Duty game i consider a good game is COD: Ghosts, which came out little over 4 years ago. Since then they’ve made disastrous games and they have a sales record to prove it. In my opinion Ghosts was pushing its luck with all of the futuristic s*** however it wasn’t too much and i still enjoyed playing the game.

Then came Advanced Warfare. Just from hearing the title I knew it wasn’t going to be good, then i saw the trailer and honestly, I’ve had more fun picking up dog crap. I’m only 19 and I’m going to sound like a pensioner saying this, but i don’t understand all of the flying about and futuristic weapons and gadgets, i just don’t get it. I just think its a pile of poo. Why am i going to want to fly about like a fairy in a Call of Duty game. It’s Call of Duty not Kerbal Space Programme, for any of you that don’t know what that is, you get to fly to different planets and you control little green men in a flying space suit.

The first Call of Duty game I played was Modern Warfare 2, and I loved it. I still consider it my all time favourite title and that is exactly what i want when playing a COD game, like many of you. Similarly I loved Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as well as the remastered version. The games that make you feel like it could be happening and you could actually be there doing it is what i want. I don’t want to be flying through space or shooting fantasy weapons, because that’s not real.

After Advanced Warfare there came Black Ops III. Admittedly I did buy the game a play it to a certain extend but I never enjoyed playing it near enough as much as I had with games before. The only reason i bought the game in the first place was because it was the last of the Black Ops series and so far a had a decent opinion of it. Once again though they were going further and further with different aspects of all the futuristic bullcrap.

14886228881_01e709d498_bNot long after news broke about another possible game set in the near future, at that point my eyes rolled as i realised the lesson had not yet been learnt. Then we got the name, Infinite Warfare. Even more of a fantasy Sci-Fi than before. Yay!, or not. I started to loose hope in the franchise, I had already started playing battlefield, a franchise I never used to be so keen on, however it seemed like the only option for a good first person shooter.

I’m not even going to mention the remastered version that they released because they made it apart of Infinite Warfare. Its like they knew that no one was going to like Infinite Warfare before they even broke news to the press of it. So they make a remastered game that people would be going mad over, and then forced people to have to buy the s***ty to get it. Although the one good thing about this is Activision and whatever other company are responsible for the franchise 100% at this point realised that futuristic COD games are complete b****cks and no one likes them.

Here’s where we get to the good bit. In 2017, we finally got what we had been waiting for, a Call of Duty game people actually want to buy. Call of Duty WWII. Its just a shame that they had to pretty much copy the idea off Battlefield, with Battlefield 1. But at least they took the hint, and we, at long last, got another good Call of Duty title. COD: WWII is an absolutely fantastic game, great graphics, great story and no flying people!!

For 2018 we should be in for a treat, with it being rumoured that the next game will be set in the present day. So, could this mean another Modern Warfare? If it does then I’m hoping for something closer to Modern Warfare 2 rather than 3, as that was a let down for me as well.
